BIOMETRY ACADEMY

Created for Ukraine.
Built for the future.
Working together for knowledge.
Together for the future.
An educational initiative in cooperation with VFFIOL e.V.,
the Association of All-Ukrainian Ophthalmologists and the
Institute of Experimental Ophthalmology,
Saarland University

The Association for the Promotion of Research for Intraocular Lens Calculation (VFFIOL e.V.) supports scientific research, knowledge exchange, and professional development in the fields of biometry and intraocular lens calculation. Through the VFFIOL e.V. Biometry Academy, we aim to make a special contribution to supporting ophthalmology in Ukraine.
In collaboration with our Ukrainian partner, the All-Ukrainian Alliance of Ophthalmologists, an ongoing online continuing education program for ophthalmologists in Ukraine has been launched. International experts share up-to-date knowledge on ophthalmic biometry, intraocular lens calculation, and related topics through regular online lectures.
All lectures are available free of charge.

Our vision
The already established training program forms the foundation of the VFFIOL Biometry Academy. Step by step, it is evolving into a structured and permanently available educational platform.
In the future, the educational offerings will be thematically organized and made permanently accessible. Additional possibilities include supplementary reading materials, case studies, expert discussions, and other formats to support professional development and scientific exchange.
Our goal is to work with our Ukrainian partners to build a sustainable educational platform that contributes to the long-term advancement of ophthalmic biometry and IOL calculation.
After all, scientific collaboration and education require a vision for the future.
Knowledge that endures.
The lectures are pre-recorded and made permanently available online. This allows the educational content to be accessed flexibly, independent of fixed event times and regardless of location.
The topics range from the fundamentals of ophthalmic biometry and IOL calculation, including the avoidance of common measurement and calculation errors to complex clinical scenarios and the latest developments in the field of intraocular lens calculation.
Our aim is not only to impart up-to-date knowledge but also to create an educational resource that remains available for the long term.
International Cooperation
A key component of the project is collaboration between Ukrainian ophthalmologists and international experts.
The training topics are aligned with the needs of colleagues in Ukraine. This professional exchange aims to make knowledge accessible, strengthen personal and scientific networks, and foster long-term international cooperation.
In this context, we explicitly view our Ukrainian counterparts not merely as recipients of our initiative, but as active partners in shaping and further developing the program.
